Cycling the Vineyards in Argentina

In Mendoza, you’ll discover much diversity in this wine country : the lush Central Valleys and the mountainous territory of the Uco Valley. Lodge at exclusive, countryside retreats. Cycle throughout the vineyards and hike to great views of Aconcagua, the highest peak of the Americas. Lay back and enjoy the magnificent landscape at the foothills of the Andes.

Day 1: Arrive Mendoza

We pick you up at the Mendoza Airport and transfer out of the city to a country inn (Lares de Chacra or similar) in the picturesque farming community of Chacras de Coria. After settling in, you'll meet your guide for an orientation meeting to review the plans for the next few days. At today's lunch we sample the gourmet local delicatessen at Almacen del Sur, then head to a small boutique winery to learn about the superb Argentine Malbecs. Dinner on your own.



Day 2: Biking & Wineries in the Uco Valley



Transfer south by van for about an hour to the town of Tupungato, in the Uco Valley. Once at the valley, we ride our bikes following country lanes to La Azul vineyard, another renown producer of Malbecs. Continuing by bicycle for a couple of miles we reach the famed Salentein Winery. Enjoy lunch at Kilka, the Bodega's restaurant and gallery, then tour the winery. Late afternoon transfer back to Mendoza. Dinner on  your own this evening. Cycling distance: 20 miles; Terrain: Mostly flat, paved roads. Lodging: Lares de Chacra- (Chacras de Coria) (Breakfast & Lunch included)


Day 3: High Andean Valleys & Biking at Uspallata


After a leisurely breakfast, we cycle to award winning winery Achaval Ferrer. Only a few years into the market, its wines consistently receive 90+ grades in Wine Spectator. Late morning transfer by van northwest, following Route 7, the main highway leading into the high Andes. We stop at Potrerillos to check in at out lodge the Pueblo del Rio, and have lunch. In the afternoon we drive to the town of Uspallata, enjoying dramatic scenery changes as we cycle away from the village’s green pastures and into the desert. Our goal is to find some hidden pre-Columbian petroglyphs. Cycle back to the village and transfer by van to the hotel. Dinner is included at the lodge. Cycling distance: 24 miles; Terrain: rolling hills, on paved and gravel roads. Lodging: Rio del Pueblo - ( Potrerillos) (All meals included)


Day 4: High Andean Valleys: Biking & Hiking at Aconcagua’s foothills



We drive north and then west, higher into the mountains, to Puente del Inca, from where we cycle for about 12 km to the entrance of the Aconcagua National Park. Enjoy the outstanding mountain scenery, leading up to Mt. Aconcagua, the highest peak of the Americas, and the second most prominent mountain in the world. We hike to Lake Horcones and enjoy an al fresco lunch with awesome views of Aconcagua`s south face. We make the most of the open spaces until it's time for the late afternoon return to our country inn. Dinner is included at the inn tonight.  Cycling distance: 8 miles – rolling hills. Terrain: mostly gravel roads. Hiking distance: 3 miles

Day 5: Mendoza – Central Valley

This morning we return by van to Mendoza, and check in the Club Tapiz. The 1890-period house, surrounded by ten hectares of vineyards, was lovingly restored to preserve its Renaissance-style villa structure and period details. You have the remainder of the day to bike through the surroundings, to visit Mendoza city with its tree-lined boulevards and sidewalk cafes, or just relax and enjoy the civilized luxuries at the lodge. Lunch & Dinner are on your own (Breakfast included.)


Day 6: Mendoza – Transfer to Airport


Morning transfer to Mendoza airport to board flights to Buenos Aires. (Breakfast included)
